*Must attend both sessions.* This 2 session series is especially appropriate for science teachers addressing student understanding of Earth's Place in the Universe and of the Properties of Light Waves. Using resources from the Smithsonian Institution and from NASA, you'll delve into the science and art of astrophotography. This STEAM topic can engage your students in science and engineering practices while supporting their personal creativity in exploring important core ideas in Earth and Physical Science.
Session 1. Learn how you and your students can take images of the moon, planets, stars, and galaxies by controlling real telescopes over the internet. Use these images to investigate lunar phases, the Earth-Sun-Moon system, and size and scale of objects in the universe. Bring your laptop or Chromebook (tablets not preferred).
Session 2. Take a deeper dive into how modern telescope technologies work to provide information about objects in the universe. You'll learn about how light waves from the distant cosmos are captured in digital images and how these images can tell us about the color of the universe. Use your new image analysis skills to create an astrophotography masterpiece! Bring your laptop or Chromebook (tablets not preferred).
*This series will be at the Children's Museum of the Upstate.*
